CAMP METAMORPHOSIS 2010: Welcome to the Wilderness
JULY 19, 2010
Another year of Camp Metamorphosis has come and gone. From July 3rd to July 10th, eighty five young campers, ages 10-18 attended our camp program at Deer Lake Christian Centre. This was made possible by the generosity and sacrifice of many people, especially of the 22 counselors and board members who offered their time to the camp prior to and during the Camp Metamorphosis week.
This year was a blessing, with 18 more campers as compared to last year and one extra day added to the program. Camp Metamorphosis has been in operation since 1997 and has developed a strong Greek Orthodox program that inspires, teaches and binds our campers to the Church and to one another. The program begins every morning at 6:45am and ends at 10pm for the juniors and at 11pm for the seniors; and our program accounts for every moment. Some of the different activities that occur are two daily chapel services; Orthodox Life; crafts; Greek Dance; Drama; Social Orthodox Christians; Athletics, Olympics, and a wide variety of evening activities. The entire focus of Camp Metamorphosis is to provide our children with an opportunity to grow in the faith, through Christian learning and Christ centered interactions. We know that it works as many of our campers return as counselors; to help the young campers, but also to live in the spirit for another week, that Camp Metamorphosis provides.
Camp Metamorphosis 2010 was a huge success. We have expanded our program to the Winnipeg area (Camp Met Winnipeg), and we are starting Camp Met B.C. this year as well. We pray that all our programs are a success in every way, but we always rely on your support.
Camp Metamorphosis would like to thank our sponsors who aided some of the campers that were not able to afford our program on their own. The Ladies of Philoptochos (Metropolis and various chapters) answered the call of Christ and helped many young children attend. God bless their efforts. We thank Westbrooke of Ancaster for their assistance in funding our T-shirts, which looked wonderful and are enjoyed for many years by our Camp Met family. We would like to thank the parents who trust us with their children, and we hope that truly they see the good in what we do there. The counselors and the Board of Directors of our Camp Metamorphosis program deserve a great deal of appreciation, for they offer their time and love as volunteers, and it is a long and tiring week. Finally, we would like to thank His Eminence for his constant support and prayers.
We look forward to seeing all of you at Camp Metamorphosis 2011!
Fr. Theologos Drakos
Director, Camp Metamorphosis
